The Greatest War – Luke Chapter 5
Many war stories depict larger-than-life battles in the air, on land, or at sea, filled with chaos and destruction on all sides. Yet, the greatest war in history involves none of these. Although the winner was declared long ago, this monumental battle continues daily. Let’s explore this warfare through the lens of Luke Chapter 5.
A different kind of fishing! Early in His ministry, Jesus stood by the Sea of Gennesaret, speaking to the eager crowds. Stepping into Simon Peter’s boat, He preached and then urged Peter to go deeper into the waters and cast his fishing nets. Despite a night of unsuccessful fishing, Peter somewhat begrudgingly obeyed and was astonished by a miraculous catch. This divine intervention led Peter and his companions to follow Jesus. Witnessing such power without a single weapon fired marked the true core of “the greatest war!”
Untouchable people! Later, a man suffering from severe leprosy cried out to Jesus. Despite the disease’s contagious nature and the social isolation it required, Jesus touched and healed him. This act of compassion and power defied cultural and hygienic norms, showcasing another victory in this ongoing spiritual war. This was “the greatest war!”
The most unlikely to change! As Jesus passed a tax collector named Levi, He simply said, “Follow me.” Levi was part of a profession often viewed with disdain because they often valued money over people with no mercy. Yet Levi immediately left everything behind to follow Jesus. This simple call was another victory in “the greatest war.”
Living the Greatest War Today! Modern war movies captivate us with thrilling scenes, yet “the greatest war’ is the internal struggle within every soul. Each time we share Jesus’ message, live by His example, or pray for divine guidance, we engage in this spiritual battle. Many remain unaware they are in a fight for their souls, but they can find refuge in Jesus Christ.
Today, we serve as Jesus’ instruments and weapons, spreading His message and encouraging others to “Follow Him.” The outcome was foretold in the Garden of Eden (Genesis 3:15), and Jesus has already won. Our mission is to share this victory with the world, bearing the banner of Jesus. Will you in your own way share Jesus’ message with someone today? Will you reflect His love through your actions? Will you pray for more laborers in this spiritual field? You are God’s greatest tool in the greatest war!
God bless you!
