Imagine being surrounded by a king’s formidable army, with no visible escape route. That’s exactly what happened to the prophet Elisha and his assistant. But Elisha, calm, composed, and not solely focusing on the imminent attack, reassured his frightened assistant: “Don’t be afraid. Those who are with us are more than those who are with them.” Elisha then prayed, “O Lord, open his eyes so he may see” (2 Kings 6:17).
In an amazing twist, God revealed the spiritual realm to the assistant. Suddenly, he saw hills filled with fiery chariots and horses encircling Elisha! In a miraculous turn of events, Elisha’s subsequent prayer led to the blinding of the king’s army. A battle that could have been devastating was over before it began! No weapons fired!
As children of God, we too have access to this divine protection. God loves each of us uniquely and equally. Just like the early apostles, who faced relentless challenges while spreading the Gospel, we must trust that God has stationed His angels around us to defend us.
Today, our challenges are often overwhelming, both personally and globally. They’re plastered across media and amplified by technology, making them feel even more oppressive. Yet, fear-producing media and technology are no match for God’s power. God’s care for us remains steadfast. There are more forces with us than against us, even when we can’t see them. Remember, God is unchanging—still all-knowing, all-powerful, and ever-present.
Even though we hear this all the time, it is true: Pray with Purpose. Regularly seek spiritual insight and clarity. Also guard and reinforce your mindset by constantly reminding yourself of God’s invisible army. And remember God said it is not good for man to be alone, and that does not only refer to marriage but also to community. So share your experiences and support one another. And wisely stay informed: Balance awareness of worldly challenges with spiritual truths.
Our faith, like Elisha’s, can influence not just our lives but those around us. The Bible is filled with examples of how God’s people, though seemingly outnumbered, were never truly alone. Next time you face a wave of life’s challenges, pray for spiritual vision and clarity. Remember, when God is with you, the odds are always in your favor.
God bless you!
