Finding Your True Potential
Dr. Myles Munroe often reflected on the words of John 14:6, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.” He stressed that a living thing disconnected from its source cannot reach its full potential.
Munroe explained, “Just as plants need soil and fish need water, humans need God. A relationship with God is essential, not optional, if we are to realize our true potential.”
Understanding this is crucial because it clarifies the absolute necessity of being spiritually reborn. Jesus declared, “I am the way,” not just one of many ways (John 14:6). He also said, “I am the vine; you are the branches…apart from Me you can do nothing” (John 15:5). That was not divine arrogance, but rather loving truth that can save our lives. To unlock your true potential, you must know your Source.
Starting with the wrong questions can lead us down paths of compromise and exhaustion, distancing us from our Source, Jesus Christ.
Instead, recognize that we are more than the result of a human union; we come from the Creator’s intent. Seek understanding from Him about your purpose. Proverbs 1:7 wisely states, “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge,” emphasizing reverence, awe for God, and constantly seeking Him are the foundation for true understanding for our lives and everything else.
God often has unique ways of communicating with each of us. Yet these basics remain our responsibility: Reflect on scripture daily to strengthen your understanding; pray daily to seek guidance and clarity and draw closer to God, and get into a Christian community that supports your spiritual growth.
Your true potential is in Jesus’ hand—go seek it! May we all go higher and higher in our Lord so that we can reach our full potential and glorify Him alone.
God bless you!
