Recently, a member of the Fresh Fire team experienced an extraordinary moment while waiting to board a plane. Suddenly, a commotion erupted as the agent quickly ushered passengers to their seats. In a flash, the plane taxied down a special side runway, bypassing other aircraft and elevating to priority #1 for takeoff at one of the world’s busiest airports. Within seconds, the plane was soaring through the skies.
Then, the captain’s voice came over the sound system: “Welcome aboard. This is your captain speaking. You may have noticed that we were granted priority status on the ground and in the air, and we are traveling at an accelerated speed. Well, we have a very important passenger on board…” Curiosity filled the cabin as passengers exchanged glances, searching for a VIP.
“Time is critical,” the captain continued. “This plane has transformed into an emergency medical unit. We are transporting a pumping heart for a patient awaiting surgery in Atlanta.” The VIP wasn’t a celebrity; it was a new heart—safely secured in the cockpit with the captain. The urgency of the situation made it clear: speed was a matter of life or death.
If the airlines can recognize the heart is a VIP, how much more should believers of Jesus Christ recognize that? To God, the heart is a VIP.
As stated in Jeremiah 3:15, “And I will give you pastors according to mine heart, which shall feed you with knowledge and understanding.” When these words were written, churches as we know them today did not exist. However, the term “pastor” referred to those chosen to be examples and lead in God’s ways. Today, this calling remains unchanged; pastors are meant to be God’s heart to the people. But wait…
Since Christ’s coming, we are all considered to be a type of pastor, as Apostle Paul said, “a royal priesthood.” Others look at our lives and determine that Christ might be like us; we influence those around us. We are all called to reflect the heart of God.
We are an emergency medical unit to a world in need, regardless of our circumstances. Is God’s heart in the cockpit or forefront of your life, guiding your thoughts and actions? While we may not achieve perfection, we can commit to the journey of growth and improvement.
So, clear the runway! Set your sights high—God is clearing the path ahead! God’s heart resides within you. Somewhere in “life’s emergency room,” a patient is waiting for that heart, for your godly love. So today, be the captain and take off in God’s love!
